Marlana Kain, BS, was born and raised in upstate New York and has been a 30-year resident of McLean, Virginia and Washington, DC. She has raised three children with her husband of 25 years and has held various leadership positions in special events and fundraising and has become an advocate of mental health awareness and reform. As a graduate of the School of Science, with a BS in Biology from Purdue University, she developed an interest in public health and neuroscience. She served on the Hospital Advisory Board, and was a member of Sigma Delta Chi, the Society of Professional Journalists.
Prior to that, she studied at Westminster College where she became involved in the creation and implementation of a recreational therapy program for residents of an assisted living home in New Wilmington, PA.
She served as Assistant Director of Government Affairs for a national trade association, working with a team of lobbyists to represent the interests of the multifamily housing industry on Capitol Hill. She is interested on focusing her future philanthropic efforts on raising mental health awareness and reducing the stigma of mental illness and supports various organizations such as BringChange2Mind which are committed to that cause.
